Exploring Wind Cave 40 Acres at a Time

Welcome to my wanderings. I started with the idea of exploring all of the (currently fenced) surface area of Wind Cave National Park. I drew up a quarter-mile grid system and loaded it into my GPS. Each of the more than 700 squares in that grid is 40 acres. I am attempting to visit every square and take a picture. Each day that I visit, I map my progress, make an entry in my journal, and sometimes take a few extra pictures along the way.

Wandering leads to discoveries. Discoveries lead to new tangential projects. I already have two of those. One is my search for historical survey pins both inside and outside of the park boundaries. My other project is envisioned as a book with a working title of “The Brief History of Land Ownership in Wind Cave National Park”.
